Each year in September we hold an Annual Parish Picnic at Veterans Memorial Park in Mattituck from 11:30 am til- 4:00 pm.  A Mass is held overlooking beautiful Peconic Bay. Pack a lunch, bring the kids or grand kids. There are lots of games and prizes. The Picnic is highlighted by Fr. Joe singing old favorites. Check the calendar for the date.

Members carefully wash, iron, and put away the linens used during the daily and weekend Masses. A rotating schedule allows for a light commitment.

We offer service to God and the community by assisting the priest during Mass. This ministry is open to all youth of the parish who have made their First Communion (third grade and up) and whose parents believe they are ready and responsible enough to make this commitment. Training in the specifics of the ministry is provided at various times throughout the year. Servers are assigned on a rotating schedule.

A non-political, non-profit organization staffed entirely by volunteers to promote “ the right of every pregnant woman to give birth and the right of every child to be born.”  Various fundraisers are organized through the year including the Annual March for Life in October.

Welcome to the family of God! What better way to welcome our new members than to present them with a gift reminding them of their baptism? Our group creates embroidered Baptismal Bibs (part of the white garment used in the celebration of this sacrament). Bibs are needed once a month on a rotating schedule.

One of the most difficult times for any family is when a loved one passes away. Teams of two parishioners assist the family in making all the necessary arrangements and also help out at the funeral Mass. Teams are assigned by the coordinator on a rotating basis.

Volunteers meet on a regular basis to count and record weekly Mass collections.

Would you like to sit quietly in the church and spend some ime with our Lord? The Blessed Sacrament is exposed for Adoration each Monday. Volunteers commit to be with Jesus on a regular basis.

Members transform our church environment to help us celebrate the liturgy. Do you have an artistic flair? Or, even a willing pair of hands? Come work with us throughout the many seasons of the liturgical year—Advent, Christmas, Ordinary Time, Lent and Easter to decorate the church.

What a privilege it is to offer the Body of Christ. So many times we hear people say “I’m not worthy of that ministry.” Perhaps none of us are, but the Lord asks for our help. Our ministers offer communion at Mass, to the homebound and to those in hospitals and nursing homes. A day of training is required and is offered periodically throughout the year.

The most important part of our parish family are our young people. Volunteers teach weekly classes for the faith formation program. Grade levels include kindergarten through ninth grade (Confirmation).

Planning and teamwork are involved in any liturgical celebration. Our members help bring the Mass alive for our young people. Are you a free thinker? Good with children? Are you unafraid of doing things differently once in a while?

Members are responsible for the finances of the parish. Experience in running a small business is helpful.

Do you have a green thumb? Even if you don’t, do you have a willingness to get down and dirty? Members are responsible for the plantings around the rectory and church.

Our members strive to maintain a warm, welcoming fellowship among our parishioners and visitors. We hand out the weekly bulletin and welcome both strangers and friends with a pleasant smile and an invitation to please join us again!

Are you a male over the age or 18? The Knights of Columbus is a Christian fraternal organization dedicated to helping the parish. Pope Saint John Paul II called the Knights the “strong right arm of the Church.” Members perform any task that helps the parish from moving furniture to running fund raisers.

Do you have a passion for scripture? Can you proclaim the Word of God? Our lectors use their gifts and enthusiasm to  engage us in the story of scripture by opening our hearts and minds to God.

Our members plan, organize, and implement our liturgical celebrations. We make them reverent, respectful, engaging, fun and prayer–filled. It is said that Sacred Heart Parish has “the best liturgies” on the East End!

When a member of our local community returns from a hospital or rehab facility and is unable to prepare their own meals, volunteers provide meals for them.

We are blessed to have music at all of our Sunday Masses, weddings, funerals and special celebrations. Our music ministers bring us closer to God by leading us in song. We have an adult choir, a youth choir, a teen music group and a contemporary music group.

Even in our local community, there are those who go to bed hungry or cold each night. The four North Fork parishes have come together to help those in need with food, fuel and other services. Volunteers are needed to staff the food pantry and the thrift shop.

Are you looking to be part of a group that meets on a regular basis for reflection and prayer? You are invited to join with others with a similar interest. Our pastoral associate creates groups which then determine their own schedule and agenda.

Our team helps those wishing to become members of the Catholic Church. We meet weekly to explore and share various aspects of our faith. Some team members serve as sponsors for those on the path to membership.

When the parish has a special event such as the Christmas Tea and the Mardi Gras pancake breakfast, willing hands are needed. If you are willing and able to set a table or put up decorations, please consider this ministry.

Members explore ways in which parishioners can share their time, talents and treasure to benefit the parish family.

We help people to their seats, take up the collection, select congregants to bring up the gifts and direct the reception of Communion.

Those getting married want everything to go according to plan. Teams of two wedding ministry members run the rehearsal, help set up on the day of the wedding and assist at the ceremony. Teams are assigned on a rotating basis.
